S-5! X-Gard System Installation
X-Gard Installation
- Tape measure
- Hacksaw with metal cutting blade
- 18V cordless screw gun (do not use an impact driver)
- Metric wrenchs, socket set ot adjustable wrench
- String line (wire suggested for longer runs)
- inch/lb torque wrench (not required, but highly recommended)
- #10-16×1″ Tek screws

Step 1: Setting a Straight Line
X-Gard is easy to install with a little attention to detail and a good start is setting a straight line.
First loosely install two S-5 mini clamps or regular clamps on the X-Gard 2.0 brackets , or if using X-Gard 1.0 ,one S-5 mini clamp or regular clamp.
Next measure up from the eave at both ends of the roof area to be protected and set one bracket/clamp assembly at each end. Tighten the set screws in all clamps. Once the clamps are located and secure, remove the X-Gard brackets and set to the side.
Attach a string line to the bottom of the clamps at both ends and pull tight. All other clamps will use the string line for alignment, so you don’t want any sags.
Line up intermediary clamps along the string line and fasten in place. The reccomended torque for the clam set screws is 160-180 in/lbs for 22ga steel, and 130-150 in/lbs for all other metals and thinner gauges of steel.

Step 2: Preassemble the Brackets & Pipes
Once all of the clamps have been secured to the roof, preassemble the X-Gard 1.0 or X-Gard 2.0 brackets by sliding them onto the NEX 2.0 pipe, making sure the are all oriented the same way. X-Gard 1.0 uses one pipe, and X-Gard 2.0 uses two pipes.
Only load the number of brackets needed for each length of pipe.

Step 3: Mount the Brackets/Pipes to the Clamps
Place the assembly on the roof and align the brackets with the clamps. Between each set of pipes, insert the included splices.
Tighten the X-Gard 1.0 or X-Gard 2.0 brackets to the clamps using the M8 bolts supplied with the clamps. The correct torque for the M8 bolts is 13 ft/lbs.
About every 50′ of assembly, secure the NEX 2.0 pipe to the X-Gard bracket using a #10-16×1″ TEK screw (not supplied) through the small hole at the top of the bracket to prevent the pipe from moving lateraly.
If neccessary, trim the pipe at each end with a hack saw or reciptrocating saw, making sure the pipe does not extend more than 4″ beyond the last bracket at either end.
Place an X-Gard Endcap over the end of the pipes and each end of the assembly to keep unwanted debris/pests from finding their way inside the pipes.
